Taking a break from woodblock printing to finish a painting I started awhile ago. Changing mediums helps with mental and physical art fatigue. The Red Dress, oil on canvas. About Gene Jaress I have been a working artist over the past 50 years. I am currently working on woodblock prints, a couple of paintings, and have half a dozen other projects in mind. The light and atmospheric conditions created by the Salish Sea, Skagit Valley and Mount Cultus looming to the east influence my work, whether it be painting, woodblock prints, or sculpture. My background in sculpture also informs that work, as I think in three dimensions when I am composing art, whatever form it will take. The other essential dimension is meticulous craftsmanship from beginning to end to create a quality piece of art. "Without craftsmanship inspiration is a mere reed shaken in the wind".
