I was glad to donate three woodblock prints to the Anacortes Arts Festival Auction.
I am also donating the first painting from the Cloud Series - Thunder - (see the Paintings page) to the Jansen Art Center.
My portion of the proceeds will go to the Jansen jewelry studio.
I will be showing woodblock prints at the Red Barn Art Pop Up in Mount Vernon at 325 W Kincaid Street from April 11-24.
I am taking a break from woodblock printing to finish a few paintings I started awhile ago. Changing mediums helps with mental and physical art fatigue.
The Red Dress above, finished and framed. Upper left another version of Big Rock.
About Gene Jaress
I have been a working artist over the past 50 years. I am currently working on woodblock prints, a couple of paintings, and have half a dozen other projects in mind. The light and atmospheric conditions created by the Salish Sea, Skagit Valley and Mount Cultus looming to the east influence my work, whether it be painting, woodblock prints, or sculpture. My background in sculpture also informs that work, as I think in three dimensions when I am composing art, whatever form it will take. The other essential dimension is meticulous craftsmanship from beginning to end to create a quality piece of art.
"Without craftsmanship inspiration
is a mere reed shaken in the wind".
